The Push and the Pull of THIS Season – an invitation
This time of year always feels like an exhale to me.
The days grow shorter, the light softens, and everything in nature begins to slow down. And yet, culturally, this season often asks the opposite of us. There’s a strong push to stay busy, to be social, to keep producing and consuming—more gatherings, more lists, more expectations. The pull toward rest can feel almost rebellious.

Winter invites something different.
For a long time, I struggled with that contrast. When my energy dipped or my creativity turned inward, I thought something was wrong. I felt pressure to stay productive, extroverted, and visibly “accomplishing” something—especially at a time of year when worth is equated with output.
But over time, I’ve learned something essential: creative energy has seasons.
We are not meant to bloom year-round.
Winter has become a time of listening rather than striving. Of honoring the pull toward stillness, reflection, and slower forms of making. Creativity doesn’t disappear in this season—it goes underground, gathering strength, waiting for the right moment to emerge.

The Winter Solstice marks a turning point—the longest night, followed by the gradual return of light. Each year, it reminds me that even when things feel quiet or hidden, something meaningful is preparing beneath the surface.
This winter, I’m sensing a tenderness there—a small glimmer, not yet fully formed, but alive. A spark that gently says, Just wait. More light is coming.
At Art Works! Studio: our winter classes, workshops, and private pARTies are designed as a counterbalance to the season’s rush. These gatherings offer a warm, welcoming space to step out of the push to perform and into the pull of creating for its own sake. Whether you join a workshop, gather friends for a private creative celebration, or carve out quiet time just for yourself, the studio is here as a place to slow down, make art without pressure, and reconnect with what truly nourishes you.
Winter may be quiet—but it is full of possibility. I’d love to create alongside you.
